Nutrition in Barcelona

The nutrition clinic helps you eat healthily in a way that fits your life, with no miracle diets. Maria Valero Carrera, a dietitian-nutritionist, looks at your habits, your goals and your health history and offers a personalized plan with follow-up.

Maria works alongside endocrinology, gynecology, rheumatology and psychology in the same center, so that diet becomes part of your treatment when you have diabetes, high cholesterol, weight problems or any other condition that calls for it.

Nutrition

What we treat

Clinical nutrition

An eating plan adapted to your health: to lose or maintain weight, for digestive problems such as irritable bowel, celiac disease or an intolerance that has already been diagnosed, and also to help control high blood pressure and cholesterol. It is not a diet sheet: it is follow-up so that the changes last.

Diabetes and diabetes education

You learn to manage diabetes day to day: what and how much to eat, how to spread your meals, what to do if your blood sugar drops or when you exercise. It complements the medical treatment from the endocrinologist and is useful at diagnosis, when your treatment changes or if you have prediabetes.

Sports nutrition

For anyone who trains regularly, competes or is preparing for a challenge. We adjust your diet to the type of training, the energy you use and your recovery. Supplements are reviewed before you add them, so that you look after your health while you train.

Vegetarian and plant-based eating

If you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, or want to cut down on meat, we help you plan a complete diet. Review of the nutrients that may be lacking: vitamin B12, iron, calcium or iodine, and advice on when a blood test or a supplement is worthwhile.

Oncology nutrition

During and after cancer treatment, eating properly helps you keep your weight and strength. You will find help with the symptoms that make eating difficult, such as nausea or loss of appetite, and once treatment has finished, always in coordination with your doctors.

Frequently asked questions

When to see a nutritionist

The most common reasons for a visit, explained in the words of the people who come to see us.

I want to lose weight healthily

Losing weight healthily means making changes you can keep up, without miracle diets that make you put the weight back on afterwards. It's worth asking for help if you've tried several diets without results or if you have a condition that diet can improve. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who creates a plan that fits your schedule, tastes and health and follows you up so the change lasts. If a hormonal cause needs ruling out, the center's endocrinologist is involved too.

I want to eat well during menopause

During menopause there are changes in your weight, bones and cardiovascular risk, and diet is a great ally. If you've gained weight, are worried about osteoporosis or your cholesterol has gone up, it's time to see a specialist. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who will advise you on adapting your nutrition and follow you up. She works with the gynecology team that manages your menopause and, if needed, with the center's rheumatologist to look after your bones at this stage.

How can I control my cholesterol or blood sugar levels through diet?

High cholesterol or blood sugar does not always require medication: often, a few specific changes to your diet are enough. Get advice when a blood test has come back abnormal, especially if it runs in your family. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who draws up a realistic plan and reviews the results with regular blood tests, which you can have at the same center.

I have bloating or digestive discomfort

Bloating and digestive discomfort are very common and often have to do with the type of diet and eating habits. Get advice if they last for weeks, limit your daily life or have appeared for no reason; if you lose weight without trying or see blood, see a doctor without waiting. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who looks at what you eat, how you feel and when the discomfort appears, to find the diet that suits you.

I play sport and want to eat better

Eating well when you play sport regularly helps you perform better, recover better and avoid injuries, and supplements are not always needed. If you are preparing for an event, lack energy during training or want to improve your body composition, get advice from a nutrition professional. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who adapts your diet to your training and goals and follows you up so you perform and recover better.

I want to follow a vegetarian diet

A well-planned vegetarian diet is healthy at any age, but you need to watch for possible deficiencies, especially protein, iron and vitamin B12, which may need supplementing. Nutritional support is key when you start this kind of diet or if you feel tired. At Gineclinic you are seen by the nutritionist, who will help you plan your specific diet.

I'm being treated for cancer

During cancer treatment it is common to lose your appetite, find eating difficult, lose weight and lose strength, and good nutrition helps you tolerate the side effects better. Getting advice from the start of treatment helps improve your quality of life during the process. At Gineclinic our nutritionist supports you with a plan adapted to each stage of treatment.
