General gynecology and gynecological treatments in Barcelona

The general gynecology clinic is where to come with any gynecological question or concern: heavy, irregular or painful periods, choosing a method of contraception, discharge, itching or infections, cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome or changes in your sex life. We give you guidance here and, if needed, refer you to the right clinic.

You will be seen by our gynecology team: Dr Xavier Marquès Amorós, Dr Lara Quintas Marquès, Dr Radharani Jiménez Carvallo, Dr Inés Torras Caral and Dr Irene Sánchez Martínez. When you need it, we work alongside endocrinology, nutrition, rheumatology, pelvic floor physiotherapy and psychology, all in the same center.

Gynecology

What we treat

Gynecological check-up

This is the preventive visit for when you have no symptoms. We review your health, carry out the tests due for your age and history, such as a full physical exam, the smear test, the HPV test, gynecological ultrasounds or gynecological cultures, and answer your questions. If you need a mammogram or a bone density scan, it is done at another specialist center.

Pediatric and adolescent gynecology

A clinic for girls and teenagers, designed so that the first visit is relaxed and, as a rule, involves no internal examination. We see periods that hurt, are very heavy or have not started, questions about development, infections and contraception. We respect the young person's confidentiality and involve the family when appropriate.

Benign and malignant breast disease

If you notice a lump, pain, nipple discharge or a change in the skin of the breast, it is worth getting it checked. Most of these problems are benign. We assess it with an examination, together with a mammogram and an ultrasound, which are carried out at specialist centers. If it is confirmed that the condition requires surgery or treatment, we support you through the next steps.

Pelvic pain

Pain in the lower abdomen that lasts for months, whether with your period, during sex or for no apparent reason, is not something you have to put up with. We look for where it comes from, which is often more than one cause, and plan joint treatment with pelvic floor physiotherapy and psychology when it helps.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it. It can cause very painful periods, pain during sex or when going to the toilet. We make the diagnosis with an examination and ultrasound and suggest the treatment that suits you, whether medical or surgical.

Gynecological and laparoscopic surgery

When a gynecological problem needs surgery, such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis or prolapse, laparoscopic surgery is used whenever possible, through small incisions. Beforehand, we calmly explain the options, the procedures and what recovery will be like.

Gynecological and breast cancer surgery

If the diagnosis is breast, womb, ovarian or cervical cancer, your doctor will explain the next steps and plan the surgery. Decisions are made together with the other specialists involved in your treatment, so that you have a clear plan and a team to support you at every step.

Integrative menopause care and bioidentical hormones

The menopause and the years before it can bring hot flushes, poor sleep, mood changes, vaginal dryness or discomfort during sex. We explain all the options, with and without hormones, along with their benefits and risks, and we work with nutrition, psychology, pelvic floor physiotherapy and rheumatology to look after your bones too. If you need it, we also work with bioidentical hormones, which have the same structure as those your body produces: Dr Marquès, who has more than 10 years' experience with these therapies, assesses your case and proposes a treatment tailored to you.

Hormone therapy

Hormone treatments outside the menopause: choosing or changing a method of contraception, managing heavy, irregular or painful periods, treating polycystic ovary syndrome, fibroids or endometriosis, or looking into periods that have stopped. We explain each option with its advantages and risks so that you can decide with all the information.
