Frequently asked questions
When to see a gynecologist and our other specialists
Choose the specialty and open the question you are interested in: these are the most common reasons for a visit, explained in the words of the people who come to see us.
When to see a gynecologist
I'm due for my annual check-up
The annual gynecological check-up is for picking up gynecological problems early, even if you have no symptoms. At Gineclinic it includes the examination, an ultrasound, a cervical smear and, depending on your age and history, the HPV test, all in the same visit. It is also the time to mention any change or concern. If you prefer, you can choose your gynecologist and have your check-up with the same professional every year.
My periods are very heavy or irregular
Very heavy or irregular periods are a common reason for a visit and often have a treatable cause, such as a hormonal imbalance or a fibroid. Get checked if your period lasts many days, leaves you very tired or has no predictable pattern. At Gineclinic you are seen by the gynecology team: we look for the cause with an examination and an ultrasound and, if you need a blood test, you can have it at the same center.
I have period pain or pelvic pain
Some discomfort with your period is common, but pain that stops you doing things is not usual and can often be helped. There are several possible causes, such as endometriosis. Get it checked if the pain is getting worse, if it hurts outside your period or if it happens during sex. At Gineclinic the gynecology team investigates it with an examination and an ultrasound. If the pain is related to the pelvic floor, you are seen by a gynecologist dedicated to pelvic pain, who works with the center's pelvic floor physiotherapist.
I've noticed a lump in my breast
Most breast lumps are benign, such as cysts, but any new lump should be checked. Don't wait for your annual check-up if you notice a lump, changes in the skin or nipple, or nipple discharge. At Gineclinic you are seen by the gynecology team, which treats benign and malignant breast disease: we examine you and, if needed, arrange imaging tests so you have an answer as soon as possible.
I have menopause symptoms
Hot flushes, poor sleep, mood changes or vaginal dryness are common during menopause, and you don't have to resign yourself to living with them. Get checked when they affect your daily life, and without waiting if you bleed after months without a period. At Gineclinic you are seen by the gynecology team, who look at how the symptoms affect you and what options you have to feel better, with or without hormone therapy. If needed, other specialties at the center, such as nutrition or psychology, are involved too.
I've been told I have a fibroid or an ovarian cyst
Fibroids and ovarian cysts are common and most are benign: many need no treatment, only follow-up. Get checked if they cause pain or heavy periods, or if they grow in size. At Gineclinic the gynecology team reviews your previous reports and carries out an examination and an ultrasound. Your gynecologist will explain the test results clearly and, if treatment is needed, what the options are, including the gynecological and laparoscopic surgery the center offers.
My smear test shows abnormal changes
An abnormal result does not mean you have a serious condition. It often points to possible infections (HPV) or changes in the cells of the cervix that can clear up on their own, but need monitoring. Don't put it off: book a visit when you receive the report. At Gineclinic the gynecology team reviews the result, examines you and suggests the follow-up or tests that are right for your case.
My last smear test showed a change that could mean I have HPV
HPV is a very common infection. When a smear test suggests HPV may be present, it needs to be confirmed and followed up, because some types can cause changes in the cells of the cervix which, when caught early, can be treated and kept under control. Book a visit when you receive the report. At Gineclinic the gynecology team reviews the result, examines you and suggests the tests and follow-up you need.
My daughter needs a first visit
A first gynecological visit is mainly a conversation, and an examination is not always needed. It's a good idea to come if she has very painful, heavy or irregular periods, or questions about her body or contraception. At Gineclinic she is seen by the gynecology team, which offers pediatric and adolescent gynecology. An examination is only done if needed and always with her consent. She can bring someone with her and, if she prefers, choose a female gynecologist when booking online.

Yes. We have been offering personalized bioidentical hormone therapy for more than 10 years. My periods are irregular and I think it could be polycystic ovaries
Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the most common causes of irregular periods. Get checked if your periods have no predictable pattern or stop altogether. At Gineclinic you are seen by the gynecology team: with an examination and a gynecological ultrasound, your doctor will assess your case and explain the options for regulating your periods. If your hormones or metabolism need further tests, the center's endocrinologist also works on your case.
